Learning Objectives
As you work through the materials, your goals by the end will be to:
- Understand how specific nutrient imbalances can be identified
- Learn how to explain to clients how specific foods can balance specific nutrient imbalances
- Understand the role of dietary fats in the cause and management of inflammation
- Know how to teach your clients about carbohydrates, and discern how much, what types and how often they can and should include carbohydrate-rich foods.
- Be able to explain to clients the difference between refined vs whole carbs
- Learn how to determine which carbs work best for individual clients
- Know how to create therapeutic diets related to carbohydrate tolerance of each client, based on whether they need low, medium, or high carbohydrate intake
- Consider a Modified Specific Carbohydrate Diet if your client suffers from persistent digestive difficulties.
- Understand how sugar is constructed on a molecular level, where sugar comes from in their diet, and what affects the rate of absorption and uptake into cells
- Be able to explain to clients how sugar is converted to energy and what’s needed for sugar to be efficiently utilized
- Know how to explain the negative effects of simple sugars, and alternatives to refined sugar for satisfying your cleints’ sweet toot
