Gut Repair and Alkalizing Nutrition for Digestion

Part 5: Optimizing Elimination

Elimination is absolutely critical in a healthy digestive system. If you don’t eliminate waste on a regular basis, your body may reabsorb the toxins it’s trying to get rid of and hold on to extra fat to buffer your vital organs from damage.

Therefore, it’s essential that you give your body everything it needs to eliminate these toxins properly.

You’ll learn:

  • The real reason your elimination gets sluggish and what to do to ensure it’s working smoothly, so you feel lighter, stronger, and have more time and energy for the fun things in life
  • Leading edge strategies for effectively removing toxins, so your gut can heal and your energy can soar
  • How to optimize liver detoxification pathways, so you can shed unwanted fat and maximize your brainpower

Action Plan

Step 1 Step 1

If you haven’t already, do a bowel transit time test.

Do the transit time test and if your transit time is not between 18 and 24 hours, consider activities to slow or speed up your transit time.

Bowel Transit Time Tracker: This charcoal test is used to determine how long it takes food to travel through your digestive tract, from mouth to anus.  Ideally, it should take between 18 and 24 hours for food to completely be moved through your digestive tract and undigested fiber to be eliminated.

Step 2

Continue drinking the AM Gut Rejuvenator drink and eating a green breakfast with chia seeds.

Daily AM Gut Rejuvenator Recipe: Drink this combination of water, lemon, and essential oils to wake up your gut each morning before you eat.

Step 3

Continue your digestion meal-time rituals.

Continue your digestion meal-time rituals, including pre-meal de-stress, chewing thoroughly, taking bitters before meals, and taking digestive enzymes with meals.

Step 4

Continue to add foods that heal and remove the foods that harm your gut (including allergens) — EVERY DAY.

Happy Belly Checklist: Foods that Harm, Foods that Heal Your Gut: Optimize your digestion by removing the foods that hurt and increasing the foods that heal. Here’s a cheat sheet you can print and refer back to when you shop and prepare meals.

Step 5

Practice habits to optimize your elimination.

Optimize your elimination via daily exercise; abdominal massage; and the proper intake of fiber, chia seeds, and hydration.

Follow the “bowel bootcamp” guidelines.

Moving Toxins Out: Elimination Bootcamp for Your Bowels: Find out what “regular” elimination means, what should happen every time you eat, reasons for irregularity, guidelines to restore regularity, and Dr. Ritamarie’s “bowel bootcamp” strategies to optimize your elimination.

Step 6

Eat Brassicas every day.

Include Brassicas and other liver and gallbladder-supporting herbs and foods in your daily diet.  Be sure to include foods like broccoli sprouts and/or ground broccoli seeds.

Step 7

Include greens at each meal (if you handle them well).

Eat a variety of leafy greens such as romaine, green/red leaf, arugula, butterhead, kale, mustard greens, collard greens, Swiss chard, spinach, dandelion greens, red clover, plantain, watercress, and chickweed.  Steam your greens if you have minor difficulty with them.

Step 8

Consume probiotic foods, juices, smoothies, and supplements each day.

Consult the GRAND Recipe Collection for a list of fermented recipes that are healthy for your gut.  Consume probiotic foods, juices, smoothies, and supplements each day.

Step 9

Use calming herbs to soothe irritable bowel symptoms.

If you have an irritable bowel, add a few of the calming herbs discussed in the slides such as dill, fennel, anise, mint, ginger, caraway, cinnamon, turmeric, clove, cardamom, chamomile, oregano, rosemary, and thyme.

Step 10

Consider a gentle 5-day liver/gallbladder cleanse.
